STORE POLICIES

Service Agreement:

At Thread Lair we make every effort to help our clients select the right materials for their project as well as sharing related information that might help with their build.  This service is the privilege of our paying clients as a gesture of gratitude for their continued patronage and is given solely at our discretion.  We pride ourselves on our no pressure sales policy and we're confident enough in our products and service that we encourage potential clients to compare our offerings with others in the market so that they will find the best fit for their budget and skillset, even if that means we don't get their business.  We encourage you to search every page of the site before sending any questions as most of the answers you seek are listed right on the product page in the shop.  There are over 100 products in our store, so be sure to scroll through them all as it's very likely we have just what you're looking for and there is a wealth of free information available throughout our website.

Unfortunately we've encountered a number of situations where opportunists have taken advantage of our expertise, spending inordinate amounts of time giving them information free of charge which has been used to shop elsewhere.  This is a violation of our good faith and robs paying customers of the time that should have been spent on them.  As such, we reserve the right to limit the information shared if it becomes evident that a potential customer has no intention of ever doing business with us, using our shop for information that will be used to give business to our competitors.   Thread Lair can revoke, remove, or terminate service or products, at any time, to anyone, for any reason.  This policy will be strictly enforced to ensure that our paying clients are given our full attention.

Pricing:

Due to the ever-increasing cost of textiles and supplies, prices are subject to change.   Please note that these policies are also subject to amendment as our business grows.

Fabric:

Each of the fabrics we offer, with some rare exceptions, are sourced from places that have limited quantities.  Wools especially are typically woven in bales of 500-1000 yards or less and once they go out of season they are rarely woven again.  We strive to cut your order in one continuous length but there may be instances where we have to make one cut or more depending on available stock.  If you require a continuous length or are unsure, we would advise that you contact us before ordering.  Please note that once an order is placed it cannot be changed, unless there is an error on our part, in which case we will correct it.

Accuracy:

There are multiple factors at play when sourcing materials for our costumes.   Something most people aren't aware of is that film costumes in the speculative fiction genre tend to have materials custom woven for the production or are sourced from high end couture fashion lines in limited quantities.  We make every attempt to screen match our fabrics to the best of our ability but since we aren't currently able to have materials custom woven for us, we do our best to get as close as possible while balancing affordability into the design.

For example a screen used garment may be constructed of wool, but with such limited quantities available to us we found a very nice cotton alternative that emulates the look.

Likewise it's important to note that during construction there may be rare instances where we favor durability over accuracy in order for our customers to get the most use out of our finished costumes.  Film productions make multiples for a single character, but nearly all private collectors can only afford one so we aim to make it last.

Color is another key factor in this process.  Considering the aforementioned sourcing process we want to make our customers aware that there may be instances where the color is not an exact match to the screen used item.  What you see on screen is often manipulated by stage lights, movement, camera filters, as well as color timing during the post production process.  As such the difference between what you witness on screen can alter drastically compared to what that same garment looks like in person.  We have been priviledged enough to see these costumes on exhibition and we were shocked at the glaring differences between what we'd always watched in the theater and what we saw with our own eyes.  Likewise we also try to color balance our fabrics so that they work in concert with one another effortlessly.

All of that said we want to ensure you that we make every attempt to find a balance between these three things, but above all we want to make the best custom garments available.

Product Use and Buyer Responsibility:

Most of the items sold here are intended to supply other designers whether they have a passion for film costumes, theater, fashion, or other design work that requires quality textiles.  As such the use or misuse of our products is the sole responsibility of the buyer and by purchasing from this site you openly acknowledge that Thread Lair and its associates are not responsible or liable for the mishandling of our products.  When you purchase from us you acknowledge your duty to obey the law and that our company does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, behavior, or beliefs of any of our customers.

From time to time we will offer props or other costume items by other vendors in a small capacity and we openly acknowledge the original maker in our listing so as to be transparent that we are not the designer or manufacturer of said items.  These products have been purchased by us directly from the source for their full asking price and are purposefully offered in limited quantities.

Sales and Shipping:

Each item sold is subject to New York State Sales Tax.  When purchasing with PayPal there will be applicable processing fees.  We ship worldwide but due to the pandemic there may be unforseen delays or shipping restrictions to certain countries.  Please consult your local postal service for updates as these restrictions are constantly being revised.  For international buyers please note that Import Taxes and Duty fees are the responsibility of the buyer.  These Duties are government regulated and standardized for every shipment service, regardless of size.  Thread Lair, and it's shipment services are beholden to lawful regulations, so please be aware of this when making a purchase as we have no say in these rates.  Due to the increasing demands placed on shipping services, delivery times are merely an estimate.  Once a package leaves our hands delays may occur which are beyond our control.

Shipping Responsibility Agreement:

At Thread Lair we make every attempt to pack the items of your order into one box.  Not only does this reduce waste, but it saves our customers money.  The only exception is for those who purchase our Special Detergent.  Due to postal regulations this item can only be shipped separately via Ground Transport and ONLY within the Continental United States.

It is the buyer’s responsibility to read the descriptions of each item as well as the extensive guides added to our website so that they are making an informed purchase.  Thread Lair cannot, and will not, be held accountable for buyer’s remorse, or failure on the consumer's part to condense their order accordingly before payment is made.  Please be sure to search the entire store, or the entire collection BEFORE you begin the check out process.  Thread Lair is under no obligation to refund any shipping costs for multiple orders.  Fulfilling multiple orders for the same customer takes away time from our other clients, so please consider their time just as much as you value your own.

Inventory and Order Fulfillment

Due to our size as a business, Thread Lair cannot keep physical inventory of every item listed on the site.  Most items are in hand but there will be cases where we require your patience as those items are delivered to us so that we can fulfill your order.  Delays are inevitable and if there is any deadline you must meet, or you have any concerns, please contact us.

Returns:

Each item we offer is inspected for quality and accuracy.  Once your items arrive, we kindly request that you inspect them and contact us within one week with any issues.  Commissioned-specific work is available upon request but due to the custom nature of each piece, all sales are final.  If there is any issue with customized items we will do our best to work with you to make it right.  We aim to make sure our garments are of the highest quality and customer satisfaction is our top priority.
